A lot to celebrate today! I am now officially a Swiss resident, which means that I handed over my entire life savings to them in order to have the privilege of riding on their perfectly punctual trains and paying entirely too much to go out to eat for four lucky months (seriously, meals at restaurants here are about $25 a plate). Genial! One of the other GW students here said that someone advised her to think of Switzerland as a very polite police state. So far, this seems fairly accurate.
I also got an internship at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) today, and I start tomorrow. I'm in the External Relations Office, working in the Interagency and Governance Secretariat Service. I'm pretty excited. As most of you know, I've wanted to work for the UN for just about forever. I just hope I didn't bite of more than I can chew for the semester.
And finally, Stephanie has a place to live! With a fantastic Swiss family, so we will all improve our French. Felicitations a elle!
To celebrate: enjoy some photos of La Vieille Ville (Old Town Geneva) that we snapped today, in my new favorite part of the city.
